‘Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols’s ashes will be sent to space

The late Star Trek star Nichelle Nichols will be a part of some fellow Trekkies “where no one has gone before.” Nichols, who died in July at age 89, can have her ashes despatched to house.

Nichols was greatest often called Lt. Nyota Uhura within the unique Star Trek sequence. Taking part in one of many first Black ladies in a lead function on American tv, Nichols was a trailblazer who impressed generations — together with NASA astronaut Mae Jemison, the primary Black girl to journey to house. After Star Trek ended, Nichols herself volunteered with NASA on the Astronaut Corps undertaking, to encourage the hiring of marginalized workers.

Nichols can be joined by different departed Star Trek actors and executives: Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry; his spouse and actor Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, who performed a number of roles in several Trek sequence and movies; actor James Doohan, who performed Scotty; and visible results artist Douglas Trumbull, who labored on Star Trek: The Movement Image.

Their stays can be despatched to house on the inaugural Celestis Voyager Memorial Spaceflight by the non-public firm Celestis, Inc., which makes a speciality of memorial spaceflights.
